A Typical Day
Clients begin the day with a healthy breakfast. The medical team then distributes any prescribed medicines. Following breakfast, clients participate in daily meditation and a daily check-in where they set goals for the day. The first group of the day begins at 9:30 am. Common topics include growth, change, community values and teamwork in recovery. After process groups, clients attend a psychoeducation group, wellness group, “Big Book” or Refuge Recovery study group, or community meeting.
From 12:00 to 1:00 pm, clients eat lunch and have time to complete clinical assignments, make phone calls (as clinically appropriate) and research aftercare. Depending on the day, adventure group or clinical group follows. During the late afternoon, clients go to the gym and have personal time.
Dinner and time to participate in creative projects takes place from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. Following dinner, clients may take part in a variety of activities depending on the day, including aftercare groups, icebreaker groups, autobiography groups or games. At 7:30 pm clients attend support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous or Refuge Recovery. We close the day with gratitude groups before bedtime at 11 pm.
