A Typical Day


At The Ranch mental health and drug rehab, you’ll live in a house with a small group of peers. This setting helps you develop close, supportive relationships and practice recovery skills. You’ll prepare and eat your meals together, beginning with breakfast preparation from 6:30 to 7 am. From 7 to 7:30 am you’ll engage in some type of gentle fitness activity (as clinically appropriate).After fitness, you’ll have what we like to call “mindful breakfast.” You’re encouraged to use meals as a mindfulness activity, engaging all of your senses: taste, smell and touch. More mindfulness follows breakfast, such as meditation. From 8:45 to 11:30 am, you’ll attend groups focusing on topics such as developing boundaries, spirituality or adventure therapies.

Lunch takes place from 12 to 1 pm and also serves as a “mindful eating” experience and process group. Following lunch, you may attend an individual therapy session or participate in one of our adventure therapies, depending on the day. At 2 pm, we usually hold psychoeducational groups where you’ll learn about a number of addiction or mental health topics. Other days, you’ll take part in experiential therapies during this time. Equine therapy with horses or 12-step work fills the time before dinner preparation at 5 pm.

Dinner takes place from 5:45 to 6:45 pm. From 7 to 9 pm, we hold 12-step meetings and therapist-facilitated groups. You’ll also have personal time for homework and other activities. At 9 pm, we’ll discuss the day and have closing meditation and reflection.
