Living with an eating disorder is too overwhelming to face alone. With the proper support, it is possible to recover from an eating disorder and live a healthy, fulfilling life. The residential eating disorder treatment program at The Ranch can help you overcome these life-altering illnesses.
The Ranch eating disorders treatment program offers a safe place for treatment and recovery. We provide specialized treatment for:
Our eating disorder specialists include physicians, therapists, psychiatric nurse practitioners and registered dietitians. Our team has years of experience helping people understand and address their disorder and its underlying causes.
Eating disorders are a type of mental illness that manifests through a person’s relationship with food. Sufferers may develop harmful patterns of thought, belief and behavior around food and eating. Specific types of eating disorders include:
People with anorexia develop a severely distorted body image. Believing themselves to be overweight, anorexia leads to dangerously restricted food intake. Sufferers may continue to think of themselves as overweight even as they drop below a healthy weight.
Bulimia involves episodes of binge eating and purging. The person may consume several thousand calories in a single sitting and immediately purge the food.
People with this disorder have regular episodes of binging. This may involve eating to the point of severe discomfort or pain. They may then fast or restrict food at other times to “make up” for the binging.
Compulsive overeaters regularly eat past the point of fullness at mealtimes. They often snack between meals, even if not hungry.
Eating disorders are serious illnesses. They have a strong impact on a person’s life and on their physical and mental health. Anorexia and bulimia can be fatal due to long-term calorie restriction and purging.
Even though eating disorders center around food, there are often complex underlying issues driving the behavior. Psychotherapy allows clients to explore the root of the problem.
At The Ranch, you’ll work through your treatment program with a small, supportive group. You and your treatment team will explore the issues that led to developing an eating disorder. You will also work on healing and recovery. At The Ranch, your recovery program may include:
Some people with eating disorders abuse drugs to speed up weight loss or cope with emotional pain. Drugs may include anything from diet pills or laxatives to illicit drugs such as amphetamines or cocaine. People who abuse alcohol or drugs may need to undergo detox before they can start residential eating disorder treatment at The Ranch. We offer a medically supervised detox program to help people detox in safety and comfort.
The residential program at The Ranch helps clients address their eating disorder by treating the whole person. Support is also provided for people with co-occurring mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. Out treatment center offers:
As part of the eating disorder program at The Ranch, you’ll work on recovery in one-on-one therapy sessions, as well as in group sessions and activities. Here you’ll explore your relationship with food and the issues underlying your eating disorder.
At the same time, you’ll work on developing new, healthier habits around food and eating. This includes meal planning and preparation support and after-meal processing groups. Here you will work on transforming the experience of eating into one of nourishment and community.
As part of your treatment program, you’ll face down the foods that trigger your disordered eating. You’ll practice challenging situations such as grocery shopping and restaurant eating. Our team also teaches healthy coping skills for when life gets stressful.
The Ranch is located by the Piney River, 45 miles west of Nashville. Nestled among rolling hills and expansive woodlands, our beautiful campus setting is an important part of recovery. As a client in our residential eating disorder treatment program, you’ll have your own semi-private room in a home-like cottage you’ll share with a small number of other clients.
The daily schedule includes therapy and other activities to support treatment. The schedule also includes meditation and reflection, exercise and personal time.
In less complex cases, some patients benefit from a non-residential treatment option. If a residential eating disorder treatment program isn’t right for you, an outpatient program might be more suitable.
Attend sessions at The Ranch several days a week. This allows you to get the treatment you need, with less disruption to your work and home life.
Many people with eating disorders also experience other mental health problems. For instance, around 50% of people with eating disorders have anxiety or depression problems as well. And, nearly 1 in 10 people with bulimia or binge eating disorder abuse alcohol or drugs. These issues need to be addressed in treatment to give clients the best chance of success.
The Ranch offers treatment for these co-occurring disorders so that clients can address the full range of problems they’re facing. This ensures they get the treatment and support they need to progress in recovery.
Eating disorder recovery is a lifelong journey. We’ll help you prepare for that journey with aftercare planning. During treatment you’ll attend self-help groups such as Eating Disorders Anonymous and Emotions Anonymous.
You can also join our alumni program. This includes alumni groups, guest speakers, education sessions, and alumni events. We also offer support for families of those recovering from eating disorders.
The cost of treatment at The Ranch is based on each client’s level of care, treatment needs, and treatment program. We can provide a free estimate of your treatment costs based on a confidential consultation.
The Ranch works with many PPO insurance providers to help cover treatment costs. Our expert admissions team will work directly with your insurance company to determine your coverage. You’ll be free to focus on your treatment and recovery.
