Deciding If You Have an Alcohol Addiction
Social drinking is normal, making it difficult for people to decide if they have an addiction or not. While social drinkers can take or leave alcohol, those with an addiction to alcohol are always looking for new reasons to use alcohol. If you have been concerned about your own level of drinking, ask yourself the following questions:- Have I tried to slow down or stop my drinking but continue to drink more?
- Have I made promises that I won’t drink and drive but still do?
- Do I get into arguments with my partner about how much alcohol I drink?
- Do I lose time from work because of my drinking?
Drinking and Driving
As you drink, your reaction times slow down. Drinking and driving is illegal because you are not safe to be behind the wheel of a car. Beyond the legal consequences of drinking while under the influence, you can cause serious injury or death if you are in an accident. Be honest with yourself about your drinking and if you have been behind the wheel of a car when you have had too much to drink. You need help with an addiction to alcohol if:- You have made promises to never drink and drive again, but you do it anyway
- You make excuses and state you are not really intoxicated or fine to drive
- You drink a large amount of alcohol and still drive
- You continually say the drive is short, or it’s no big deal
