Specialty Programs

Recovery at The Ranch Tennessee is shaped by the land, the pace of daily life, and the ways people learn best through experience. Alongside our core recovery programs, we offer specialty programs that support emotional awareness, relationships, accountability, and steady growth.

These specialty programs are woven into care, not “add-ons.” They help clients practice skills in real time—through movement, interaction, and reflection—while staying grounded in routine and community. Each program draws from the natural setting of The Ranch and the structure of daily life.

How specialty programs support recovery at The Ranch

Specialty programs at The Ranch Tennessee are designed to support recovery beyond talk-based therapy and medication alone. While psychotherapy and medication plans remain central, our clients also get the chance to turn insight into action.

Time outdoors, working with animals, moving through the land, and practicing relationships in a supported setting all help clients notice patterns as they happen. Specialty programs create opportunities to slow down, regulate emotions, and respond differently under stress.

Family program

Substance use and mental health challenges affect more than one person. The family program at The Ranch Tennessee helps clients and loved ones understand how these challenges shape communication, trust, and daily life.

Family involvement focuses on practical skills, never blame. Guided sessions support healthier boundaries, clearer communication, and realistic expectations for life after treatment. Family work is integrated throughout care, helping families stay informed, supported, and grounded as recovery continues.

Equine therapy

Horses are central to The Ranch. They respond to body language, energy, and emotional cues, often revealing patterns that are difficult to access through words alone. Working with horses helps clients practice emotional regulation, boundary-setting, and presence in real time. Sessions are guided by licensed clinicians and equine specialists in a calm, outdoor setting.

Equine therapy starts as non-riding sessions, but over time, clients may graduate to therapeutic riding sessions. Many clients describe equine therapy as a place where they first begin to feel more connected and aware.

Adventure therapy

Adventure therapy brings movement, outdoor challenge, and reflection into the recovery process. Using the ropes courses, zip lines, and natural features of our Nashville-area location, clients engage in guided activities that support awareness and teamwork.

Outdoor experiences help clients notice how they respond to stress, uncertainty, and success. Activities are adapted to each client’s comfort level, making adventure therapy accessible and supportive rather than overwhelming.

Sexual Recovery Program

The Sexual Recovery Program at The Ranch Tennessee is a gender-specific program for adult men struggling with compulsive sexual behaviors. The program is structured, trauma-informed, and certified by the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP).

Men in this program work on understanding behavior patterns, reducing shame and secrecy, and building accountability. Care is skills-focused and can be integrated with recovery support for substance use or mental health concerns.

Brian Fuller, MD

Medical Director

Dr. Fuller is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He completed medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and residency at Vanderbilt University. Additionally, he has completed the Nashville Advance Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Program, a two-year intensive program to better integrate traditional psychotherapy into his psychiatric practice. Dr. Fuller began his post-residency career in psychiatry running a psychotherapy-oriented private practice. Looking to help more people than he could working alone yet still provide treatment that emphasizes the importance and value of talk therapy, he joined The Ranch in 2017.

Dr. Fuller is passionate about helping people who have survived trauma and/or are struggling with addiction and strongly believes that the life we all deserve is within reach, no matter the adversity that one must overcome. He views medications as tools rather than solutions and his prescribing philosophy is to use the lowest dose necessary of non-addictive medications to help aid the process of recovery.
