In response to soaring demand for its highly effective eating disorders treatment program, The Women’s Eating Recovery Center at The Ranch opens Windsong House, a 12,000-square-foot treatment center for women. Nunnelly, TN (PRWEB) Aug. 12, 2014 – The Ranch, a state-of-the-art behavioral health center specializing in the treatment of trauma, mood disorders and intimacy disorders, as well as substance abuse and dependence, is expanding its eating disorder program capacity with the launch of Windsong House. The 12,000-square-foot facility in Nunnelly, Tennessee, is set on lush farm land and will house 15 clients. Nestled among horse pastures and woodlands near the confluence of Mill Creek and the Piney River, the home features a state-of-the-art culinary kitchen designed to help clients develop a better understanding of food preparation while establishing a healthier relationship with food. “Windsong House was designed specifically with an intention to meet the needs and the preferences of the women served,” says Barbara Larew-Adams, The Ranch’s clinical director. “Windsong House captures our belief that eating disorder treatment is best done in an environment that offers individual and groups an atmosphere that is homelike, cheerful and tranquil. The staff intentionally chose bright, vibrant colors mixed with colors that are soothing and soft, for a warm, inviting feel,” she says. Each client at Windsong has her own team, which includes a primary therapist, a trauma therapist, a nutritionist, an equine therapist, a case manager, medical providers and a large group of residential staff led by a house manager. This provides for a collaborative approach to addressing problems while implementing an individualized treatment and recovery program, reports Cheryl Brown, director of marketing and outreach services. “Over its many years of attending to the needs of this population, The Ranch has established itself as a leader in addressing not only the eating disorder, but also the additional issues often presented,” Brown says. The team draws from dialectical behavior therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy as well as experiential strategies to address the eating disorder as well as co-occurring underlying conditions. Conditions that frequently reside alongside an eating disorder include anxiety, depression, PTSD, substance abuse or dependence, bipolar disorder, intimacy disorders and borderline personality disorder. The program features:
- Dialectical behavioral therapy
- Acceptance and commitment therapy
- Intimacy disorder work
- Adult children of alcoholics group
- 12-Step meetings and mentoring
- Mindfulness strategies and services
- Body image group
- Experiential group
- Four Agreements group
- Equine-assisted psychotherapy
- Life’s questions group
- Yoga
- Adventure therapy
- Women’s issues
- Spiritual services
The facility has received high marks from its new residents. “When our first group of clients entered Windsong,” says Larew-Adams, “some of the women literally did twirls and pranced with delight. It clearly was a joyful moment.”
